I know what you’re thinking but bear with me and hear me out. For as long as I can remember, washing dishes has been one of my favourite household chores. Yes, I know!
My ma-in-law can never understand it. Neither can a lot of my friends.
But you see, for me, hand washing dishes is a lot of fun and today, I want to share 5 ways YOU, too, can start enjoying this otherwise mundane chore!
1. Treat Hand Washing Dishes as Reflection Time
I use my dishwashing time to reflect, brainstorm and think over things. It’s quite meditative, actually. Not surprisingly, I often get my best business and blog ideas when doing the dishes. It’s like literally, the debris is cleared from my mind.
Plus, if you think of it like your quiet time, you’ll be surprised at how quickly you go through that stack of dirty plates.
2. Listen to Podcasts
Want to make washing dishes an educational and entertaining experience? Listen to podcasts. Meagan of The Happiest Home has a lineup of 5 great podcasts you can listen to when doing the dishes. You can listen to music too!! Tune in!
3. Watch a Movie or Your Favorite Sitcom
Honestly, I have never done this because we don’t have a television in the kitchen. But if YOU have one, why not use the time you spend doing dishes catching up on your favorite sitcom or soap or a movie. Yes, multi-tasking works here.
4. Catch up on Conversation with Family
You know there are times when Mayank and I can hardly get a word in with Manini around. Yes, 5-year olds t.a.l.k. A LOT! Doing the dishes gives us both some time to chat with each other without her nipping in every second. Using the time to catch up on some grown-up conversation or just family conversation helps the time fly past.
5. Make it Indulgent
Who says washing dishes has to be plain and boring? Amp up the indulgence quotient by keeping a jar of your richest hand cream next to the dishwashing liquid. Switch to a dishwashing liquid that’s green and smells gorgeous too. This Ecover Grapefruit & Green Tea Dishwashing Liquid seems quite yum!
Do YOU enjoy washing dishes as much as I do? What tips do you have? Share with me in the comments!
