Natural Beauty Routines and the Busy WAHM: Making it Work {Plus an Announcement!}

green and eco beauty

Living an eco-friendly, greener life is something we try hard to do, as a family.  Whether it is going green in the bathroom or using green cleaners, we’ve tried to reuse, reduce and recycle as much as possible.

However, when it came to natural beauty routines, skincare and cosmetics {considering how FEW I can be bothered to use!}, I’m afraid I haven’t been that diligent. My excuse is I’m really busy working and managing the home. Yeah, I know. You don’t buy that, do you?

I do use a mix of gramflour and yogurt as a face scrub and sometimes, a brown sugar and olive oil mix as a body scrub, but that’s pretty much it.

So, after reading this post by Tsh of Simple Mom on oil-cleansing for like, the hundredth time, I decided it was time to take action.

Meet My New Natural Face Wash

natural oil cleanser

I’ve followed Tsh’s directions to a tee.

  • Blend equal proportions of EVOO {extra-virgin olive oil} and castor oil.
  • Apply it gently on my dry face.
  • Place a hot {not scalding}, damp towel on my face and feel all spa-like.
  • Gently wipe away the oil and the dirt as well.

With the start of the winter here, this seems like the perfect way to clean my face. I’ve used it for about 5 days now and LOVE it. It’s great for keeping my skin moisturized without the need for another product and is a fantastic makeup remover.

Having taken the plunge here, I also knew it was time to change my shampoo.

 Hello Herbal Hair {Cleansers}

I’d switched to the Forest Essentials range of hair cleansers way back in January and seriously LOVE them. They’re made of all natural ingredients like, honey, jasmine, and more. No chemicals or detergents.

Nevertheless, they’re expensive. Not my perfect idea of saving green to go green, right?

So, while I’m not going to stop using Forest Essentials altogether, I will be using again, Tsh’s baking soda hair cleanser, alternating between the two.

I’ll keep you posted on my progress over on Facebook and Twitter. Stay tuned! **laughing**
