The Single Most Important Lesson I Learned After Writing 4 eBooks

I can still recall the moment I uploaded my first free eBook on this site. I was nervous, scared and felt completely out of my depth.

You see, writing was something I was comfortable with, familiar with and actually, quite passionate about. So, writing the eBook wasn’t the hard part. Getting it out there was. Even though it was a freebie.

Fast forward to my first for-sale eBook, How to be a Work-at-Home Mom: The Happily Ever After Guide to Leading the WAHM Life. I was more confident but still a little out of my depth about getting the eBook in front of my audience.

Moving ahead to my second for-sale eBook, Summer Sanity Savers for the Work-at-Home Mom and I was totally at ease because I had learnt from over 4 years of experience one of the most important lessons in product creation – launch strategy.

Why Do You Need a Strategy for Launching

Simply because it will help you formulate a strategy for selling. If you are able to pull off a successful launch, you would have done a lot more than just put a product out there. You would have set in motion a process that would help you to take your product further, easily and effectively.

What Took Me 4 Years to Learn This Lesson

Fear. Of. Failing. 

As hard as it is for me to admit this, fear held me back from getting my act together and creating a launch strategy that rocked. Fear held me from getting the word out there via my network. Fear stopped me from reaching out and sharing my books with readers who needed it most.

I was scared.

I learnt the importance of putting together a strategy for launch, thanks to the wisdom of my mentors and of course, my own experience with each new eBook.

I learnt that having a launch strategy doesn’t make you a smarmy salesman (or woman!).

I learnt that a plan for launch gives you the confidence you need to get your product out there and make it a success.

You see, creating a kickass product is the first step.

The next is making sure that everyone else can see how kickass it is.

And a solid strategy can help you do that. It can help you plan when to bring out your product, who to market it to, how to do it easily and on a budget, what you need from your network, what you need from yourself.

Don’t Make My Mistakes

I debated long and hard over sharing this post. After all, it isn’t easy admitting that I was afraid, nervous, and plain frightened to death in my role as an entrepreneur.

But the truth is that I really, deeply don’t want you to make the mistake I did and lose out on a LOT of goodness by overlooking the importance of launching right and with confidence.

It is tough being a mom entrepreneur and every product or service you create is based on tons of hard work, sleepless nights, sacrifices and investment of all kinds. So, make it all work by having a plan in place to launch right.

Anne’s tips and ideas were the ones that helped me make my 2nd eBook launch a success. From helping me set up a pre-selling strategy to creating an email list to putting together a step-by-step launch and post-launch strategy, Anne’s site literally walked me through everything. Everything you need to give you the confidence and clarity to launch right.

  1. Good advice. I’ve been trying to decide how to take my blog and possible book to the next level. One, because I love doing it and people respond well. And two, I really need an income while going to school and raising my four kids. A friend suggested I put together an ebook of blog posts, but I wonder if that is something that would work? I want to take the next step, I just don’t know what it is!

      Thank you. I’m glad you found this useful. I agree putting together an eBook of blog posts is a good idea, however, centering it around a ‘theme’ or purpose is what would help you to ‘sell’ it. For instance, what problem would that collection of posts solve for your reader? Answer that question and then, take it from there. You could start from here and then, go on to write an eBook filled with new content that people would love to get and pay for. You’ll help readers AND create an income source for yourself. Win-win!

  2. Hi Prerna! I’m getting ready to launch my first for-sale ebook on 9/13….so this post is kind of encouraging, and kind of strikes fear into my heart! Thanks for reminding me how important it is to zone in on my strategy these next few weeks. It may be tough to execute but I’ll be grateful in the long run. Right?
