How to Organize a Baby Shower on a Budget: Frugal Hacks{and a Giveaway} for Baby Showers

Organizing a baby shower can be a lot of fun. There is just something SO exciting about celebrating an expectant mama and her soon-to-arrive bundle of joy. Unfortunately, like most traditions and celebrations, a baby shower too has morphed into an ‘event’ that pretty much busts one’s budget.

Does a baby shower have to be expensive to be enjoyable? Umm, no!

Here are 5 frugal hacks {plus a cool giveaway!!} to help you celebrate and organize a baby shower on a budget:

1. Reuse or Borrow Decorations

Chances are your friends and you have celebrated many baby showers in the past. Check with one another for decorations from previous showers and see if they can be woven into the theme. Borrowing or reusing decorations is an easy and economical way to decorate for a baby shower.

 2. Go DIY Where Possible

Yes, DIY maybe a little time consuming but it is definitely economical. For instance, the cake can be baked and decorated simply at home. If you haven’t been able to borrow or reuse decorations, maybe you can make your own. Or you could try your hand with the baby shower favors. Need some inspiration? Here you go:

 3. Get Inexpensive Invitations and Party Gifts

If you don’t want to go the whole hog on DIY, you can easily opt for inexpensive invitations and party favors as well as decorations. Check out the local Dollar Store for cheap but cute party favors and decorations, especially table decorations. For invitations, you can check out Evite for email invitations but if you want the ‘real’ thing on a budget, the Minted baby shower collection has some really cute stuff.

4. Have Friends Pitch In with their Talents

Yes, a baby shower is generally a ‘team’ effort so call in help and ask friends to pitch in with their talents and skills. Have a friend who’s a dab hand at painting, ask her if she can handpaint the invites. Know a friend who runs a catering business? Find out if she can offer you a deal or even do a complimentary catering for the shower. Yes, call in help from all quarters. You’d be surprised at how easy it becomes to organize an affordable yet fun shower.

 5. Use Reusable Cutlery and Crockery

Finally, don’t get disposable plates, glasses or cutlery. Use ‘real’, reusable crockery and cutlery, not only because it is more eco-friendly but also because it is way cheaper. Sure, you may have to wash an extra load of dishes the next day, but think of the money you would have saved besides helping the planet. Feels better, doesn’t it?
