Are you wondering how you’ll carve in writing time along with carving the turkey? Meet client commitments while meeting friends and family?
Yes, you aren’t alone. It can be tough to balance things as it is and when the holidays come around, life can get even busier and crazier.
However, there is little point in getting all stressed and overwhelmed and losing out on the fun and serenity that the holidays bring.
So, what can you do?
You plan and prepare for productive holidays so that you can get work done, have fun, reflect and enter the New Year feeling calm and confident instead of frazzled and frustrated.
Here are some of the ways in which I’ve learnt to prepare for a more productive and peaceful holiday season over the years:
Use a Holiday Organizer
I totally love my holiday organizer and while I use a LOT of the printables from Jessica’s updated Organizing Life as Mom eBook, I do create a separate organizer and pull it out only at the start of October. If you’ve never created a holiday organizer, please make one now. It will totally save your sanity. Trust me. I know.
Plan for Vacation and Family Time in Advance
Don’t wait until November to inform clients about your family vacation. You know you’ll be away well before that so, let them know at least a month in advance so that they can plan accordingly. I usually do double duty and schedule everything in advance before I head out for vacation and no-phone-internet-time.
Also, do the same for your own blog. Either write your posts in advance and schedule them or get guest posts for that time. Either way, you’ll have to schedule them in advance.
Cut Back on Unnecessary “Commitments”
Do you spend an hour on Facebook each day? Cut it down to 30 minutes. And spend that extra 30 minutes on holiday-related chores or prep for vacation time. Scale back wherever you can. You can even cut down on unnecessary holiday must-dos and instead, focus on enjoying a season of serenity and peace.
