For Kids of Working Moms: Mommy and Daddy Work to Make Some Dough {Review}

A Book for Kids of Working Moms

Books for kids are a wonderful medium of inspiring, encouraging, and teaching all the while having fun too. So, when I get a request to review a kid’s book, I can never refuse. After all, if there is one thing you can’t have enough of {besides chocolate!} it is books for a child. This particular children’s book by a fulltime working mom herself deals with an important issue – explaining having to work to a child.

If you are a fulltime working mom, you will enjoy having this book in your child’s library to read together and help your little one understand you having to work.

Help Kids Understand a Working Mom’s Life with Mommy and Daddy Work to Make Some Dough

Children of working mothers often feel sad and upset when mommy and daddy have to go to work, everyday. Books like Mommy and Daddy Work to Make Some Dough are a great way to help kids understand jobs, earning money and the fact that no matter what, they will be the most important people in their parents’ lives.

Explaining Fulltime Work to a Child

While work-at-home moms work too and for the record, so do stay-at-home moms, a fulltime working mom has a different situation. She drops off her kids to school everyday and has the task of explaining, “why do you have to go to work, mommy?” Jennifer Pereyra explains this beautifully in her children’s book, Mommy and Daddy Work to Make Some Dough.

Written in a child-friendly rhyming style with the most adorable illustrations, the book features Rebeca as she learns from her mother the concept of “earning” money and why it is needed. In the process, she understands why mom has to work.

Why I Like the Book

Most importantly, this is a book that addresses an important topic – explaining a working mom’s life to a child. {Check out my review of Nikki Mark’s Mommy Brings home the Bacon}.

Besides that, it is written in a warm, personal and engaging style with easy-to-understand words and language, making this a great book to have in your library.

The sentences rhyme which makes it easy even for a toddler to follow along. The illustrations are SO cute that you’ll fall in love with the book yourself.

Written from a child’s point of view, I loved the ending the most. You have Rebeca standing in her class, explaining very nicely why  mommies and daddies have to work. The book empowers and educates a child without being preachy or boring. Very important!
