Best Books to Teach Toddlers Etiquette and Manners

Last week, I talked about how important and easy it is to teach a preschooler or toddler to say, “Please” and “Thank You”. Two simple but powerful words. I also discussed how we use books, such as Emily’s Magic Words, with our daughter to reinforce good manners and polite behavior. Here are some of the other books that I’ve used and will be using as we continue teaching our toddler the importance of being polite.

Excuse Me! A Little Book of Manners by Karen Katz

I love Katz’s books and am really wanting to add this to our toddler’s library. The book is written in a simple, sweet style with plenty of repetition to encourage learning and remembering. The illustrations are delightful and colourful, making it a visual treat for toddlers and grown-ups. Love it!

Little Monsters’ Guide to Modern Manners

We got this book at a discount sale and I love it! The illustrations are amazing. I initially thought that the Little Monsters term was a tad “rude” but my daughter loved the colorful monster illustrations and once you read it, you realize that the “little monster” term  is actually quite endearing. Its funny and yet informative. Just what a toddler needs! Stay tuned for a more detailed review.

Richard Scarry’s Please and Thank You Book by Richard Scarry

Do you remember the books you read as a child? Scarry’s books will help you remember. The illustrations are familiar and adorable. Characters like, Huckle, Lowly and Little Sister will win your toddler’s heart and make teaching politeness an easy activity.

It’s Time for Good Manners  by Leslie A. Susskind

This is a lovely book, that’s both a story and a practice guide for kids wanting to learn manners and telling time. It is on my wishlist, especially since we are working with our preschooler on telling time as well. The illustrations look lovely and the text is easy-to-understand as well.

Have you read (or even written!) a kids’ book on manners and politeness? Please share!

Great list of etiquette books. We have the book “Time to Say Please” by Mo Willems. It’s a good little book and my son loves the illustrations.

Thanks for sharing. These all look like really cute books for kids to learn manners. I personally think this topic of manners is good to address earlier in life versus later because as we know it’s hard to break “bad” habits, which is why I wrote, “Manners Stink!”

Hi Demika..thnxs.. Yes, I agree.. The earlier you start, the better it is! I’d love to check out Manners Stink too..
