Today, I’m delighted to share with you a guest post by the incredibly generous, talented and gorgeously fit mom and founder of POISE, Dr. Teri Jory. Do read her lovely interview to know more about her and her work.
Over to Teri..
Hi Moms! My goal today is to inspire you to live and enjoy a healthier lifestyle, physically and mentally. As a nurturer and care taker, you give a lot of yourself with very little time left over. No worries! You don’t need tons of time to start off, only 10 minutes to get energized and toned. So come with me for a fabulous ride to get Poised.
Give yourself permission to focus on your health and peace of mind for at least, 10 minutes a day. And I promise, you will love yourself afterward. After all, when mom is healthy and fit, everyone’s happier too!
Find Your Center : Proper Posture and Breathing
This is the 1st Poise Position and it focuses on helping you develop the right posture and breathing pattern designed to keep you calmer and healthier.
Lie down on your back on the floor, bed, or couch with hands by your side. Tell your best friend, your body, to do these things:
Feel your bottom, middle, upper vertebrae on the floor. Make a nice C-curve with your neck (chin-up will create this). Relax your face, chin, jaw and lips…have a little space between your lips and relax your tongue.
Pull your shoulders back and down toward your feet. Suck in your belly button towards your spine.
Now breathe with your rib cage only, holding your belly in tight (it takes lots of practice, so do NOT get discouraged).
Breathe for 3 counts in through your nose and 3 counts out through your mouth.
Close your eyes and continue breathing while thinking happy thoughts. Do this for at least 5 minutes.
Start slowly with 10 cycles of breathing and continue to add on until you reach 5-10 minutes.
You can apply this POISE technique of your 1st Position in your daily activities 24/7… driving, shopping, cooking, sitting at your desk, walking, playing with and holding your baby (suck in the belly…no protruding;). Poise 1st Position is as close to a magic pill as you are going to get.
Advantages of POISE Fitness Moves
The Poise 1st Position allows you to exercise physically and mentally. You are educating your body not to hold your breath, slouch, or be in a rigid posture. We are all born in our natural center. But as we go through life, we start wearing harmful stresses and strains. This 1st Position will help you find your body’s natural rhythm and energy from the inside, tone your inside pelvic muscles so you can hold in your belly and look beautiful on the outside!
Your pillar of strength begins from your core. This will enable you to support your body in various movements. And moms get in all kinds of positions while taking care and playing with our children.
A whole new world will open up to you. Something as simple as paying attention to your posture and breathing will empower you and fill you with confidence because this is your natural strength that comes from you – your inner power. Enjoy and embrace yourself!!!
Note: I will be doing the POISE program in May and will keep all of you tuned about my experiences and progress. Very excited!
