Busy life? Too much to do, too little time? Yes, that sounds a lot like my life too! But remember that old saying, “Too much work and no play makes Jack (or in this case, Jill) a dull boy/girl”. It is important to take a breather in the middle of a busy, hectic life. It may not always be easy, it may not always seem practical but it will always do you and your family a ton of good.

Here are some simple ways to take a mom’s time out, right now. Best part, all these take less than 10 minutes. So, no excuses to not catching a break. You need it. Your family needs it. ‘Cos a happy mother does make a happy family.

1. Make Yourself a Cup of Tea

A cuppa tea can lift your spirits provided you actually sit down to drink it and savor the warmth and comfort that seeps into your soul. So, once you make yourself that cup of green, black or Earl Grey, sit down in your favorite place and enjoy it.

2. Enjoy the Sunset/Sunrise

I love sunrises and sunsets. Waking up early means I get to watch the sunrise right after my morning prayer ritual. And it leaves me with a positive feeling that lasts through the day…mostly. Best part, I can combine sipping my cup of tea with watching the sunrise from my apartment’s balcony. Best way to kickstart the day!

3. Take a Relaxing/Energizing Bath

Depending upon what your tired, weary soul craves for, fix yourself a relaxing or energizing bath. I’d mentioned in one of my older posts, how I use a bucket and not a tub or shower for bathing since it helps me save water in my own small way. So, a relaxing bath means a soothing ambience – candles, soft music, sweet-smelling soaps and quiet. Usually possible only during my toddler’s naptime, but who cares! An energizing bath is when I need to feel all charged up and rarin’-to-go. Peppy music, icy cold or near-boiling hot water (depending upon the season), and my special charge-me-up soap that smells, embarrassingly, masculine. ***laughing***

4. Talk to a Friend Who Makes You Laugh

You know friends, online or offline, are important, right? Just as important is connecting with a friend who can cheer you up, make you laugh out loud and give you a mood boost, right in the middle of a dull or crazy day. We all have at least one. Connect with her or him. Now.

5. Read and Reflect on Something Positive

Again, a beautiful way to find a minute to pause, smack bang in the middle of a day that promises certain insanity. I have a few books that I keep on my bedside table and reach for them when I need inspiration, encouragement or just a minute to reflect. 365: Everyday Teachings by the Dalai Lama is a favorite as is my Bible. I open either at random, read a verse, let it seep in and guide me through the rest of the day. Somehow, things just get a little brighter, a bit easier.

How do you take a mom’s time-out in the middle of all the busyness that surrounds you?

    Hi Prerna!
My “Mom’s Time-Out” is right after the kids are in bed. I always plan to do a workout and curl up with a book, but I usually end up like I am, right now, glued to my laptop, reading blogs!

I love the read and reflect on something positive tip! That really helps me. I don’t know what I would do without it. That and 10min of meditation. Have a lovely day!

Thanks for sharing, Wendy! Meditation, yes, is a great way to get a moment to pause and reflect.
